As I didn't win...

... the contest I participated to, here's what I wrote. A story in 350 words (title included)

BIRTH

As usual, Mom was waiting for me in the Lockheed Galaxy van.
“Hello, son, how was school?” she asked while I was getting in. “Same old shit”, I said.
“Hey, language, young man!”
I wasn’t listening. We had taken off and I was looking out the window. Same old city. Same old people, doing the same things over and over again, day by day.
I wished things changed sooner or later, but they didn’t.
We got home, in the standard American neighbourhood, all houses looking more or less the same. Made me feel sick.
Boy, the dog, ran to me, barking and waving his tail. Gods, mammals are so stupid. I still haven’t seen one of them showing any intelligence at all, like speaking.
“Are you all right?” asked Mom. Well, I sort of was, no itching lately nor skin falling off, but I sort of wasn’t, nevertheless. “Yeah,” was all I could say. My mouth was dry.
“It’s just because your sister is going to be born soon. You’ll see, things will change.”
I couldn’t see how, but I didn’t say that. I wished Mom was right.
I got a snack bar from the fridge and I sat to do my homework. I couldn’t find anything interesting in the books. So I just sat staring at my sister, sitting in her incubator.
C’mon, it’s been a month already, it’s high time you hurried up, I thought. I am sure she can hear stuff inside that glass thingy.
Maybe she’s the reason why I am so restless. Or perhaps there was something in the air... After all, I’m almost ready for mating.
I decided I would sit in the back garden to breathe some fresh air; it usually clears my mind. Boy was running up and down, bringing me his ball and letting me understand that he wanted me to throw it again. Pathetic.
“Reeeek! Hurry up, your sister is coming out!” I heard Mom scream.
Here we go! I got up, scratched some dirt off my scales and went back in to see my sister hatch.

Bene, ho provato a partecipare a un concorso ma non ha funzionato; quindi metto qui il racconto che avevo scritto. Purtroppo, essendo un concorso internazionale, il racconto è in inglese, ve l'accattate così cum'è, guagliò! :)
